The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) does a good job of removing particulate matter from the exhaust gas, however over time this filter loses efficiency and the regeneration process can no longer be completed.  The result is poor performance, a DPF or Check Engine Light on the dash, and a very generous repair bill from your local dealer.
