The owner of this Mk5 GTi approached us for a custom ECU tune at Stage 2 level, and we got to work!
Model: Mk5 Golf GTI 2.0T
Engine: 2.0 4-Cylinder TFSI (Turbo charged, direct injection) - EA113
Transmission: 6-Speed Manual
ECU: Bosch MED9.1
Location: THANAS CPT
Modifications:
The vehicle had already been tuned previously and had been fitted with a 76 mm intake that had not been scaled in. It was also presenting with Runner Flap and EVAP errors. We got to work establishing a baseline for the car as it arrived.
We then performed a full backup of the ECU:
The intake was scaled in and the runner flaps and EVAP system were coded out. We also added our own tweaks for this platform, that is needed at this age.
One the coding was complete, the ECU was flashed in bench mode again.
Then it was time to perform the detailed datalogs and testing that we do for each car that is booked in to ensure that it is reliable and performs as it should. This process of datalogging and revising was repeated until we were happy that the calibration was optimal for the hardware.
The Result:
Before (Tuned): 172 kW / 362 Nm
After (THANAS/Tuned): 199 kW / 438 Nm
Substantial gains across the rev range from appropriate MAF scaling and calibration. The gains presented above are from calibration changes only, no hardware adjustments were made. The vehicle is also running considerably better and more reliably, as it was knocking substantially when it arrived, owing to the incorrect intake scaling.
Thanks for watching!
